Project Description
The Ladies & the Flies follows the lives of five women residing in three different continents and countries (Germany,Canada, Tanzania) as they form a non-traditional sisterhood bond surrounding a beneficial insect called the Black Soldier Fly, through which they gain financial independence and the means to shape their own future.
The 60-minutes length documentary intimately reflects the personal journeys of these women before and after they crossed paths. This is a wakeup call to remind us of the importanceof empowering women especially in the least developed environments.
Along their journey, the researchers are bonding with the ladies in Tanzania and a new sisterhood bond is created between them. Both researchers are reflecting on their journey in Germany and Canada and think of women who are left behind in Africa.
The ladies of Sauti ya Jamii talk about their past and how finances and relationships hindered them from turning their dreams into realities and their hope in opportunities the future might hold for them.
