About me
Birgit Rasch is Head of Creative Producing at LOOKSfilm. She joined the company in 2015 as creative producer and has produced documentary series and films for German and international broadcasters and video on demand-platforms such as ARD, ZDF, Arte, and Netflix.
Her track record includes, among others, The Cuba Libre Story (2015), Age of Tanks (2018), Colonia Dignidad: Aus dem Innern einer deutschen Sekte (2020, DAfF Award 2020, Robert Geisendörfer Award 2021), and A Sinister Sect: Colonia Dignidad (2021, nominated for the Platino Awards 2022 and the Focal International Awards 2022).
Birgit is a graduate of Freie Universität Berlin, and University of California, Berkeley, where she studied film, theater studies and comparative literature. In 1999 she joined the Maxim Gorki Theater Berlin and started a ten-year career as dramaturge at leading theaters in Germany.
From 2001-2004, she worked at Deutsches Theater Berlin and held the same position at Schauspiel Leipzig until 2008. Her working relationships included internationally renowned authors and directors such as Andreas Dresen, Armin Petras, and Nicolas Stemann.
In addition to her work as creative producer and dramaturge, Birgit curated for 15 years the talk format Gregor Gysi trifft Zeitgenossen at Deutsches Theater Berlin. Over 100 prominent guests were invited to give insight into their lives and discuss pressing questions of the day with politician Gregor Gysi. Among the invited guests were conductor Daniel Barenboim, publicist Günter Gaus, actor Armin Mueller-Stahl, politician Egon Bahr, and author Marcel Reich-Ranitzki.
In addition, Birgit published several books, among them Ich. Erich Mielke. Psychogramm des DDR-Geheimdienstchefs (2015) about the life of GDR chief of intelligence Erich Mielke.
Since 2020, Birgit heads the creative producing department at LOOKSfilm and is responsible for the overall content and alignment of the company's film productions. In this function she supervised among others the award-winning series A War on Trial. Justice for Ex-Yugoslavia (nominated for Grimme Awards and the DAfF Awards), War in Europe – Drama in Ukraine and Terror at the Games – The Munich Massacre (nominated for the Rose d'Or Awards).
