Project Description
In this documentary film project, we accompany one of the millions of patients who suffer from smell loss after COVID-19 infection, on her way to regain her lost sense of smell. In the process, we experience the world "through her nose" and learn the consequences of olfactory loss, or “anosmia”, first-hand. We learn about the neuronal foundations of smelling and smell loss, experience how smells constantly influence us in many unforeseen ways, and gain an insight into current olfactory research and state-of-the-art neuroscientific methods. The direct involvement of the patient, the patients relatives, and leading scientists provides a special perspective and ensures emotional engagement. Viewers will be released with the idea of consciously valuing their own sense of smell in their everyday lives, be it through consciously carrying out olfactory training or just stopping to smell the flowers by the wayside. At the same time, a lasting fascination for our oldest and most emotional sense will be awakened.
