Stephanie Black
Archaelogist & Public Historian
Durham University
About me
Steph is an PhD candidate in Archaeology at Durham University and a public historian on social media. Her thesis research is on Iron Age settlement patterns in the Hajar Mountains of Oman.
Growing up homeschooled in Australia, she received her Bachelor's degree in 2017 from Sydney’s Macquarie University in Archaeology and Anthropology before leaving Australia to work as a house tutor in an English boarding school.
In November 2019, while working as a commercial archaeologist on construction sites in and around Oxford, Steph downloaded TikTok and posted her first video on her account @archthot. Since then, she has posted nearly 4800 videos, and after originally posting on Instagram as a foodie account, she now also posts archaeology content as @adventuringarchaeologist.
Her goal is to deliver factual, fun, sometimes funny archaeology content and, whenever possible, to correct misinformation.
Steph got her MA in Archaeology from Durham University and has attended field schools, volunteered and worked on archaeological sites in 7 different countries, including UAE, and Bulgaria. Eventually, she wants to work as an archaeologist on all the continents.
